New Bubba Bicep Action!!! A 2hr electronic audio adventure!!!

Next up on the FMB mixes is another homegrown favourite BUBBA, presenting his Soundtraxx mix. Collaborations with Timmy Stewart as Bubba & T-Bone seen release’s on labels Get the Curse, Elevation, Mode Music and Tom Budden’s Alive imprint and have seen big support fromt he likes of  Ivan Smagghe, Ewan Pearson, Ricardo Villalobos,  Laurent Garnier and Solomun to name a few. With a release on the unparalleled Trax Records coming in the new year amongst other things we though this would be the perfect time to catch up…so take it away BUBBA.
The late 70’s and early 80’s is a period that seems to hold a real fascination for me in movies and music. It was a period of new technology and computers influencing music and movies like Blade Runner, Alien, Star Wars, Escape from New York, Westworld stimulating my imagination of future visions. This combined with the electronic music of Kraftwerk, Giorgio Moroder, Human League soundtracks of John Carpenter moulded my love for an electronic sound which always inspires me. And I’m still discovering music from that era of disco early house, italo, electronica and pop from artists such as Tangerine Dream, Klause Schulze, Telex, Egyptian Lover, The The and more.
I put together this 2 hr mix of new discoveries, old reedits, new trax, movie samples and some of my own, I guess it’s the sort of music I imagine that was getting played at the Technoir night club in the Terminator just before Arnie turned up and ruined the party!

New Bubba & T-Bone remix of Logan out today on Beatport!!

https://www.beatport.com/en-US/html/content/release/detail/308941/Vizsla

Logan is the pseudonym of a very well known Glaswegian, famed not as you'd expect for constructing club music but by actually being able to claim his great great grandfather was the very Scotsman who invented haggis, quite by accident. Given that Detroit Techno is on the Primary school curriculum in Scotland, it's no surprise that tracks like this just 'appear' out of thin air, usually outside the Sub Club at around 4am.
Vizsla is a pared down but mighty slice of club cake, cooked up from the same recipe book FK used to kick start the Wave Music bakery
A precise, dimly-lit, bin rattling joy.

Remixes remain 'in house' as the newly revitalized Bubba cuddles up with our very own Timmy Stewart - operating here under his porn star nom de plume
to fire out this quite brilliant, anthemic, tripped out and decidedly downtown workout. Duckbeats once again uses almost nothing from the original track, breaking very much with convention but managing to concoct a soulful, synth washed dub, which is the dancefloor equivalent of a warm blanket and cup of cocoa after an 8 hour pummeling in Berghain. Another EP Sureshot!

Solid Evidence of a time traveler in a 1928 Charlie Chaplin film!!!

Amazing footage of a woman in 1928 Charlie Chaplin film, it looks like she is speaking on an iphone!!!
Or she may be just scratching her face!!!
The time travel debate continues!!!

Just in Time for Halloween!!!

John Carpenter's frequent soundtrack collaborator embraces the darkness in advance of Halloween.

You may not know the name Alan Howarth, but you'll surely have heard his music before. He's been involved with the sound design of movies like
Raiders of the Lost ArkPoltergeist and all of the Star Trek movies. Some of his finest work, though, has come in collaboration with John Carpenter, whose soundtrack to Escape from New York has been beloved, rinsed and re-edited by countless DJs. Renowned for his murky and unstable atmospheres, Howarth's work is perfect for this time of year, which is exactly why we asked him to delve into his archives to provide a special Halloween mix in honor of his performances at this year's Unsound festival.

Bubba & T-Bones Re-Edit of Knuckles wrapped!!

We have had the great opportunity to be involved with an exciting remix/re-edit project with one of our all time favourite ever labels  - TRAX Chicago!!
DJ History are putting out a double cd of reedits/remixes of the classic label.
Unfortunately none of the original parts or masters exist anymore (if the vinyl pressings  were anything to go by this stuff is probably landfill now!)
With so many classic tracks to choose from  but Frankie Knuckles & Jamie Principles - Baby wants to ride got our pick (Always loved the lead line and vocals).
With such a well known fav we wanted to be repectful to the original, not turn it into a bit of stilton. You can check out the results in Jan when the double cd is released!
Also featuring reedits from Ray Mang, Greg Wilson, Mark Broom, Kink, Neville Watson and more.

New Bubba Remix of Jet Project - Cuba Walking!!

Oh we're rolling now, deadly music is coming into the Extended Play HQ thick and fast.
Lucky for you we're knocking 90% of it back, and using extremely complicated distillation machinery to ensure the remaining 10% is up to our (and hopefully your) very high standards

So, why are we bothering you with EP008 ?
Well, because quite simply it's a stunning package - Jet Project need no introduction, they've got more stuff on the web than Bill Gates, and most of it is much better than Windows 95.
'Cuba Walking' is inspired by the acclaimed hollywood star Cuba Gooding Jnr. Bizarrely he was walking past their Belfast studio just at the point they dropped the massive Piano riff into the track !

As always, the remix line-up is second to none: Rampa & Re.You take a hatchet to the parts, stripping off most of the meat and getting right down to the marrow bone - they like it raw. Elsewhere Half Inch Jack do what they do best and take this back to somewhere altogether darker, sweatier and drum machine driven. Back 2 Basics stalwarts Buckley & Jon Woodall beam their excellent UK flavoured rub directly in from the floor of Stinky's Peep House, while the ever on form Bubba proves he's the new Mogadon of Slo-mo housychedilcs with a gloriously executed slab of smooth.

Tom Budden - Mahoosive!
iopis - love the bubba and rampa

Bubba Album While the City Sleeps...OUT NOW

A first for Aciitone as we see the release of our first artist album from Belfast native Jonny "Bubba"Smith. “While the City Sleeps” is a fresh sound that draws on many retro influences. BUBBA’s debut solo album delivers a selection of well rounded pieces that showcase the many sides of his producing talents, from sunny strings to bumpin basslines, with deeper, drugged out vocal snips and a squechy splosh of acid, its an album offering a fine selection of summertime bombs…

Jonny ‘Bubba’ Smyth started out as a kid, making music on a keyboard and drum machine in his bedroom in Belfast in the 90’s,trying to emulate the techno and house sounds he was hearing at the underground club nights Sugar Sweet and Shake Ya Brain ran by local DJ/Soundtrack legend David Holmes.

Teaming up with his friends who were DJ’s and producer’s became part of the local underground collective, DJing and playing live around Belfast and Ireland. With his friend Mark ‘Scoper’ Bell they produced the seminal track Scoper & Bubba – I’m Satisfied released on Luke Solomon and Derrick Carter’s Classic label.

Then further releases as Scoper & Bubba alongside label mates Romanthony and Milton Jackson on Glasgow Underground and for Paul Woolford’s Hip Therapy project. Collaborations with Timmy ‘Jet Project’ Stewart as Bubba & T-Bone seen release’s on labels Elevation, Mode Music and Tom Budden’s Alive imprint and have seen big support and plays by Dubfire, James Zabiela, Ivan Smagge, Ewan Pearson, Ricardo Villalobos, Paul Woolford, Laurent Garnier, Solomun, Ben Watt and more.

Now embarking on a exciting new solo project which sees his debut album coming out on eclectic electronic label Aciitone. And the first in a series of releases for Tel Aviv Label Asymmetric and Chris Duckenfield and Jet Projects Extended Play.

“It’s cool that you make something in your bedroom and with the technology you can reach lots of different people, I’m very excited that Aciitone are getting this project out. Music speaks an international language”

With more tracks and remixes on the way in the coming month’s, in 2010 you’ll definitely be hearing more…

Bubba - Drugs, Hugs and Thugs out on Extended Play!!

Following hot on the heels of the mighty 'Ascension' we're very happy to welcome into the fold non other than Bubba, erstwhile partner to fellow Belfastian Scoper whose classic 'I'm Satisfied' defies it's age by still working its timeless magic on many a discerning floor.
So, having been switched onto the Slo-mo House resurgence as expertly rolled out by the likes of Graeme 'Revenge' Clark, Mark E etc etc, Bubba decided to crack open the padlock on the sonic shed and power up the Bubba-Tron generator

'Drugs, Thugs and Hugs' iss the triumphant result, a deeply pulsating beast of a track, which is an amalgamation of Murky pitched down vocals, rattling drum work and a deep Reese like throb It's got more atmosphere than some of the solar systems larger planets and completely engulfs any room it's unleashed in. As always, we've picked our remix squad with the precision of a premier league manager, calling on Matthew Styles, or Matthew At Work as he ought to be called here, his mid-nineties flavoured House Dub
sounds like a slick NY track oozing out of some home made speaker cabs in a dimly lit Manhattan basement.
Bearweasel we're sure need little introduction, their recent sterling remix work has been a staple in the Extended Players playlist time and again, and this deeper than deep remake of D, T & H warms the cockles a treat. Finally the mighty Jet Project unleash yet another monster mix, a broad ribcage rattling bass line powers this heftiest of workouts, perfectly rounding off a varied and super high  quality addition to the EP catalogue.

ORIGINAL IS A MOTHERF***ING BOOOOOOOOMB – Ivan Smagghe

Great package! All 4 are great. WIll be trying out this weekend! – Tom Budden

Love Bearweasel thanks!!!! – Zombie Disco Squad

Wicked bassline on the Jet Project mix and Bearweasel healthy too  – Murray Richardson

Digging this release. The Bearweasel one is prob our fave for the
dancefloor but they are all good. very unique, eclectic, and
different. – Android Cartel

Without a doubt my fave bearweasel to date! - Brendon Moeller

Dope - Spencer Parker

Wicked as always. ROCKS! – C- rock (motorcitysoul)

Properly K'd out deep house with some late 90's warehouse attitude - stitched together 21'st century style. Will defo play. Dope. - Mazi

This is sick! Bearweasel on fire !!! Played this on Sunday at Unit in Tokyo and people went crazy… -  Radio Slave
